Recover from Work.
Reclaim Your Life.
Live on Purpose.

Your life is more than your work.

The first step is recognizing when work has taken over—and realizing that it doesn’t have to be this way.

Living on purpose means choosing how much you give to your professional life and how much you give to your personal life. What would happen if you prioritized what truly matters to you—your health, happiness, and well-being—first? Spoiler: You’ll thrive personally and professionally.

Work Recovery Coaching helps you pause, reset, and create a rhythm that supports your life, not just your job.

Reclaim Your Rhythm

Work Recovery is about more than just taking breaks. It’s about developing awareness of how work has taken over and reclaiming a personal-professional rhythm that prioritizes what matters most. Imagine:

  • Starting your mornings with what energizes you—whether it’s a walk, meditation, or a slow cup of coffee—before diving into emails.

  • Taking an actual lunch break instead of eating while doing more work (because there will always be more work).

  • Ending your workday at a time that works for younot when all the tasks are done (because they never will be).

  • Being so immersed in your evenings and weekends—whether with yourself, family, or friends—that checking your phone, email, or notifications doesn’t even cross your mind.

  • Treating your creative pursuits and hobbies as non-negotiablejust like meetings.

Work Recovery is about breaking free from the default work-first mindset and intentionally designing a life where work fits around you—not the other way around.

Work is a big part of life—but it shouldn’t consume all of it. Too often, we let work dictate our schedules, energy, and priorities, leaving little room for personal fulfillment. But you get to decide how you structure your life.

What if, every day, you prioritized the most important things for your well-being—instead of just letting work fill your time? True success isn’t about squeezing life into the margins of work—it’s about intentionally creating a rhythm where both can thrive.

Craig Keaton, PhD

I’ve been in your shoes—maybe even worse. I’ve been exhausted, burned out, and sick. In fact, it took almost dying for me to realize just how overworked and disconnected I had become. I know firsthand the high price of letting work take over—and I also know the deep relief and fulfillment that come from reclaiming your time, energy, and priorities. That’s why I created Work Recovery Coaching.

For over 25 years, I’ve spent my career helping others—but I didn’t always extend that same care to myself. As a health coach, then a counselor, and most recently as the Director of Wellbeing for a medical school, I often asked others to do what I wasn’t doing myself. It took a near-fatal heart attack to force me to turn my attention to my own recovery. Now, I use my background in social work, social science research, and health and well-being—combined with my lived experience of burnout and recovery—to help others do the same.

My goal is simple: to help you step back, reset, and build a life where what matters most to you comes first—without sacrificing meaningful work.

What Else Work Recovery Means

Work Recovery is about both recovering from work and recovering a better way to work. In fact, recovering from work is recovering a better way to work—because when you rest, you return to your work rested, refreshed, and reengaged. You’re more creative, energetic, and focused.

Most people have invested heavily in productivity and efficiency but have neglected the other half of the equation—rest and recovery.

You’re not missing another productivity hack. You’re missing the space to restore yourself so that the tools and strategies you already have actually work.

When you make time to rest, you naturally become more effective, making your work feel more meaningful and sustainable.

Work Recovery isn’t necessarily about working less—it’s about working in a way that allows you to fully engage in what matters most, both professionally and personally.

When Work Recovery Means
Rethinking Work

Work Recovery isn’t just about setting better boundaries or taking breaks—it can also be about redefining what work means to you. Sometimes, in the process of recovering from overwork, you realize that it’s not just how you’re working that needs to change, but the work itself.

Work Recovery may mean:

  • Recognizing that your current job no longer aligns with your values, passions, or well-being.

  • Discovering a new calling, career path, or creative pursuit that excites and fulfills you.

  • Transitioning to a role that allows for more flexibility, purpose, or balance.

  • Re-evaluating what success means and creating a work life that truly supports your whole life.

Maybe you've spent years climbing a ladder only to realize it’s leaning against the wrong wall. Or perhaps you’ve uncovered a new interest, passion, or way of working that feels more in tune with who you are now.

Work Recovery isn’t just about recovering from work—it’s about recovering the kind of work that allows you to thrive.

If you’re feeling the pull toward something different but aren’t sure where to start, Work Recovery Coaching can help you explore your next steps with clarity and confidence.

 FAQs

  • Absolutely not! Living on purpose means making conscious choices about what’s most important to you—including work. Prioritizing work isn’t the same as overworking. The key difference is that when you prioritize work in a healthy way, you’re making an intentional decision about when, where, and how you work—based on your personal values and well-being.

  • Work Recovery is the practice of stepping away from work—mentally and physically—to rest, recharge, and fully engage in other meaningful parts of your life. It’s about creating personal-professional rhythms that support both your well-being and your ability to do great work sustainably.

  • Not at all! In fact, Work Recovery can help you be even more engaged, creative, and effective in your professional life. By prioritizing what truly matters—your health, happiness, and well-being—you’ll have more energy, clarity, and focus to bring to your work.

  • Yes! Loving your work doesn’t mean it should consume your entire life. Even the most passionate professionals need time to rest and recharge. Work Recovery ensures that your work remains fulfilling rather than leading to burnout.

  • It starts with awareness—recognizing when work has taken over and making a conscious effort to create space for the personal. Small shifts, like setting clear boundaries, taking real breaks, and prioritizing you and your personal well-being, can make a huge difference.

  • Quite possibly! Work isn’t just about employment—it’s about all the responsibilities and demands that take your time and energy. Parenting is a full-time job, and perhaps the hardest job to detach from—yet stepping away is essential to being a present, engaged parent. Caregiving for a partner, parent, or loved one is also full-time, and recovery is just as vital. If your life is consumed by responsibilities, Work Recovery can help you create space for rest, renewal, and living fully beyond your obligations.
